Privacy policy
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Moat helps you block distracting apps and websites. The app is local-first: without an account, everything stays on your device. This page describes exactly what does and doesn't happen.
Who is responsible
Callior, trading as Moat, established in The Hague, the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number 98074121, is the controller for the processing described here. Questions about privacy: info@hellosovereign.com.
Without an account
- Blocks, schedules, limits, strict mode and your progress stay on your device only.
- Your unlock code is stored only as a salted hash, on the device. If you let a friend keep it, Moat stores the code on our server, without your account or name, until your friend opens the link once. Then it is erased. The message to your friend only contains the link, not the code.
- Your age from onboarding is only used on the device to calculate your time. It is not sent.
- iPhone: the apps you pick and the time you spend in them are handled by Apple's Screen Time. Moat only receives anonymous references (tokens), not app names, and they never leave your device.
- Android: the accessibility service sees which app is in the foreground and, if you block websites, the address in your browser's address bar. This happens on the device only and is not stored or sent. Usage access provides screen time for Insights and daily limits; those numbers also stay on the device.
Anonymous usage statistics
The app sends anonymous events to PostHog (EU servers), such as "session started" or "setting changed", to improve the app. No name, email address, app name, website or screen time data is included, and no person profile is created. Events are tied to a random id created by the app on your device, not to your account. Legal basis: legitimate interest (improving the app).
With an account (optional)
You can sign in with Apple or Google to keep your progress and join the leaderboard and friends. We then store, at Supabase:
- your email address and the name Apple or Google provides;
- a user id and your invite code, and who invited you;
- your total focus time, number of sessions, streak and today's focus;
- for each completed session the start, end and duration;
- your block setup, so you get it back on a new device (iPhone: names and schedules, without Screen Time tokens; Android: package names and websites);
- your friends and pending friend requests;
- if you focus with a friend: who invited whom, when the session ends, and whether each of you is focusing, finished or stopped early;
- a push token for your device, with its platform and language, so we can notify you about friend requests and focusing together. It is removed when you sign out;
- only if you join the screen time leaderboard (Android): your total screen time for today, as one number with the date and time it was measured. Never which apps or sites. Each measurement replaces the previous one, and when you stop sharing, the value is deleted.
On the leaderboards others only see an abbreviated name (for example "Sanne K."), your focus time (where each session counts once for every app or site it blocked), your streak and, if you joined, today's screen time. Friends you accepted see your name. Legal basis: performance of the contract (the features you choose with an account); for the screen time leaderboard, your consent, which you withdraw by turning sharing off.
Who processes data for us
- Supabase Inc.: database and sign-in, as our processor.
- PostHog: anonymous statistics, on EU servers.
- RevenueCat Inc.: processes purchases and subscriptions. Receives a random user id from the app, or your account id if you're signed in (so a purchase comes back on a new device), and the store's purchase data (product, date, status). Not your name, email address or payment details; those stay with Apple or Google.
- Apple and Google: only if you sign in with them, for purchases in their stores, and to deliver notifications (Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging).
Supabase and RevenueCat are companies based in the United States. If personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, this only happens on the basis of the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
We don't sell data, show ads or track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Retention and deletion
- Account and synced data are kept until you delete your account.
- Deleting in the app (Settings, Account, Delete account) erases your account right away, and with it your profile, sessions, synced blocks and friendships. Your name is removed from the leaderboard at the same moment. People you invited keep their own account.
- Backups of the database may still contain a deleted account until they are replaced automatically. We only use backups to restore the service after a failure.
- Data on your device stays until you remove the app.
Can't open the app anymore? See delete your account.
Your rights
You may access, correct, delete or export your data and object to processing. Email info@hellosovereign.com; we reply within one month. You can also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the authority in your country.
Children
Moat is not directed at children under 13. An account does not ask for your age.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date at the top. Significant changes are announced in the app.
Privacybeleid
Laatst bijgewerkt: 25 oktober 2026
Wie is verantwoordelijk
Vragen over privacy: info@hellosovereign.com.
Zonder account
- je e-mailadres en de naam die Apple of Google doorgeeft;
- een gebruikers-id en je uitnodigingscode, en wie jou uitnodigde;
- je totale focustijd, het aantal sessies, je streak en je focus van vandaag;
- per afgeronde sessie het begin, het einde en de duur;
- je blokkade-opzet, zodat je die op een nieuw toestel terugkrijgt (iPhone: namen en schema's, zonder Schermtijd-tokens; Android: pakketnamen en websites);
- je vrienden en openstaande vriendschapsverzoeken;
- als je samen met een vriend focust: wie wie uitnodigde, wanneer de sessie eindigt en of jullie elk nog focussen, klaar zijn of eerder stopten;
- een pushtoken van je toestel, met platform en taal, zodat we je een melding kunnen sturen bij een vriendschapsverzoek en bij samen focussen. Het gaat weg als je uitlogt;
Nooit welke apps of sites.
